Why Ikaria

One of the world’s five blue zones.

Ikaria is one of the five places on earth where people routinely live past ninety. Researchers point to the food, the walking, the afternoon naps and the absence of hurry; locals mostly shrug — this is simply how the island works.

Around 8,800 people live here year-round, and summer’s rhythm is set by the panigiria: all-night village festivals with live music, shared tables and dancing until sunrise. If one falls during your stay, go. These two short films say the rest better than we can.
